Khartoum, Oct. 10 (SUNA) – The Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Prof. Yasser Abbas, has affirmed his ministry’s readiness to provide irrigation water for cultivation of 715,000 feddans in Gezira Scheme and to increase the cultivated area in New Halfa Agricultural Scheme to 100,000 feddans in the new winter season 2021-2022.
The Ministry of Irrigation held an expanded meeting today that included, along with the Minister and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation, Eng. Daou Al-Bayt Abdul- Rahman Mansour, the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Al-Tahir Harbi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gezira Scheme, Dr. Siddiq Abdul-Hadi, the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Dr. Omer Marzouk, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al-Rahad Scheme, Al-Zubair Ibrahim and member of the Farmers Union Council Osman Al-Bashir.
Prof. Abbas said that the meeting, which was characterized by frankness and clarity, discussed all the obstacles that accompanied the summer season and preparing for the coming winter season, announcing increase in dredgers, in addition to renting additional ones to remove weeds and silting.
He indicated that the meeting was fruitful and successful as the three sides of production, namely farmers, irrigation administration and agricultural administration, have affirmed close cooperation for the success of the cultivation process.
