Darfur holdout rebel leader arrives in Juba to meet President Kiir

Abdel Wahid al-Nur, Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW) arrived Monday in Juba to brief President Salva Kiir about his plan for an internal peace process.

The holdout group says planning to hold a conference in Khartoum for comprehensive peace in Sudan.

Speaking to reporters after his arrival in Jub, al-Nur said he would talk with President Kiir about his roadmap dubbed “Sudan-Sudan dialogue” inside the country.

“Our initiative is not related to the Juba Peace Agreement at all,” he further stressed.

The exiled rebel leader moved from Paris to Kamala last year had pledged to disclose the full details of his initiative at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He rejected the Juba peace process saying he does not recognize the legitimacy of the transitional government.

However, he met with the Sudanese Prime Minister in Paris in September 2019 but he was keen to say he has a personal relationship with him.

President Kiir had pledged to keep on his efforts to bring the armed groups in Sudan to end the war and join the transitional government after the collapse of the former regime.
