The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, has affirmed Sudan keenness on the effectiveness of its membership in the Human Rights Council and its endeavor to join all the conventions for human rights protection.This came when she received in her office Sunday the Secretary General of the International Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions and Chairman of the Qatari National Human Rights Institution, Ali bin Sumaikh Al-Marri. Al-Marri has welcomed Sudan joining to the International Conventions for the Combat of Torture and the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.He explained that the goal of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions aims to support the establishment of independent and balanced national institutions to protect and enhance human rights, and to follow up, monitor and provide recommendations and support to countries with regard to human rights and their international work mechanisms.He affirmed the coalition’s readiness to support Sudan in this regard and to strengthen and build capacity and to raise awareness and knowledge in the field of human rights.
