Khartoum, June 12 (SUNA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, Saturday received in her office the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Sudan, Mohamed Sheikh Ishaq, and appreciated the firm ties between the two peoples and the bonds linking Sudan and Somalia.
The meeting reviewed the political developments in Somalia, as the Minister said that Sudan is following with great care and concern the details of the political current situation in sister Somalia in terms of brotherly relations and in accordance with Sudan chairmanship of the current session of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), expressing Sudan’s welcome to the consensus that was reached between the parties with regard to holding the Somali elections,
Dr. Mariam gave a briefing on the efforts of the transitional government in the economic reforms and the efforts to complete the peace process as it is one in the priorities of the transitional period program, besides Sudan position on the developments in the files of the Renaissance Dam and the border tensions with neighboring Ethiopia.
On his part, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia affirmed his pleasure with this meeting and expressed Somalia’s aspiration for an effective role of Sudan in supporting the stability in his country through its current chairmanship of the IGAD.
The two sides agreed on reactivation of the mechanisms of joint cooperation between the two countries to achieve the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples in security, development and stability.
