Galwak: Meeting of Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be Decisive in Juba Negotiations 

Juba, June 14 (SUNA) – The Southern mediation, headed by Advisor of South Sudan President for Security Affairs, Tut Galwak, has continued its consultative meetings (1+3) with the delegations of the transitional government and the South Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North (SPLM-N) by discussing the remaining controversial issues between the two parties.

Galwak said in a press statement that these meetings are aimed to bring closer the views of the two negotiating delegations on the controversial points, indicating that there is agreement between the two parties on some issues and a difference in visions on some other issues, stressing the commitment of the two parties to the peace process on ground that peace as a central issue for the citizens of Sudan

Galwak said that it was agreed that tomorrow’s (Tuesday) meeting would be the decisive one, explaining that “This means that either the framework agreement will be signed or the negotiation round will be lifted.”

The head of the southern mediation team called on the negotiating parties to continue on the path of peace and take advantage of the positive atmosphere provided by the meeting of the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council with the leader of the SPLM – North to put an end to the suffering of the citizens who suffered the war.

 “The main issue was the relationship of religion with the state, which was resolved by the signing the Declaration of Principles in Juba between the President of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, and the leader of the SPLM – North of Abdulaziz Al-Hillu, but there is still difference in positions on this issue,” Galwak said.

Galwak stated that the mediation is acting to implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, who called for continuing efforts to bring peace in Sudan, referring to the shuttle tours carried out by the mediation team in Khartoum and Juba, and its sitting with the government of Sudan and the SPLM-North sides in order to advance peace negotiations  

The head of the mediation team has praised the role of Chad in supporting the peace process in Sudan despite the circumstances it suffers as a result of the departure of its president, Idriss Deby, indicating that Chad has sent its ambassador to Sudan and South Sudan to be present in the Juba negotiations, a matter which affirms Chad’s concern and support to the stability in Sudan.
