Hamdouk Affirms Sudan Readiness to Continue Efforts to Realize Peace in Region 

Khartoum, June 7 (SUNA) – The Prime Minister and current chairperson of the IGAD, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, has affirmed the readiness of Sudan to continue efforts to achieve peace in the region and to support the peace process in the Republic of South Sudan.  

 This came when he received in his office Monday the Executive Secretary of the IGAD, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi.

The Prime Minister affirmed Sudan support the efforts for IGAD reform and the endeavors to achieve peace and stability in IGAD countries.

Dr. Hamdouk was informed on a number of the reforms taken by the IGAD under chairmanship of Sudan.

The meeting also discussed progress of the implementation of South Sudan peace agreement and the steps that could made in the coming period to boost the peace process in the Republic of South Sudan.

Dr. Gebeyehu has thanked the Prime Minister for the efforts of Sudan, on its capacity as the current chairman of the IGAD, in solving urgent issues in the region, especially the file on the difference in the Somali elections.
