IGAD Welcomes AU’s Appointment of Special Representative for the Horn of Africa
Khartoum, 1-9-2021 (SUNA) – The Inter-governmental authority for development (IGAD) has welcomed the appointment of former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo as the representative of the African Union representative to the Horn of Africa region.
In statement received on Wednesday IGAD said Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has welcomed the appointment of Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria as African Union High Representative for the Horn of Africa, saying that Obasanjo is an experienced statesman, leader and diplomat.
“Dr Workneh hailed the appointment as important given the need for coherence between efforts of IGAD, the AU and other partners in addressing development needs and sustainable peace in the region” the press release said.
It added that the Executive Secretary wished President Obasanjo success in his new role and “looks forward to the pleasure of closely working with him to strengthen close ties, and partnership with the African Union”
