Representative of Kassala State Wali (governor) Adil Alloub has received a visiting joint delegation of the Commission of Refugees (COR) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) organization, headed by Deputy Commissioner for Refugees Mohamed Yasin Al-Touhami.
Al-Touhami said the visit came in the context of consultations with the government of Kassala State on mapping out a national strategic plan in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of South Sudan for realizing sustainable solutions for the issues of refugees, returnees and the host communities.He added that the meeting tackled many aspects pertinent to mapping out of the strategy and a work plan for addressing the deteriorated conditions at the local communities and the areas of the returnees besides the challenges facing the refugees and IDPs. Al-Touhami indicated that the strategy, which would consider the issues of sustainable development, would be integrated with that of the Republic of South Sudan by IGAD organization, which sponsor the work, and would be funded by the international community.The representative of the wali, on his part, welcomed the visiting joint delegation of COR and IGAD, and presented a thorough briefing on the situations of refugees at Hamdaiet area and the negative impacts of presence of big numbers of Ethiopian refugees in the area and their reflections on health, security and social aspects therein.
