Port Sudan, Oct. 14 (SUNA)- The visiting delegation of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) has met with the Director of the Southern Port in Port Sudan Mohamed Mahgoub.
The representative of the UNITAMS, Ms. Stephanie Koury, pointed out during the meeting that their visit to Port Sudan aims at getting acquainted with the problem of blocking the national road of Port Sudan-Khartoum and the seaport, indicating that the blocking is a political problem that complicates the democratic transition process and it has economic dimensions.
For his part, the director of the southern port underscored that the closure is a political problem and the Sea-Ports Authority is not a party to it, pointing to the negative effects of the closure of the port on the country in general and on the ports in particular, expressing hope that the visit of the delegation of the UNITAMS would contribute to solving the problem.
The UNITAMS’ delegation continued the program of its visit to Port Sudan that included a visit to the Red Sea University and meetings with civil society organizations, political parties and resistance committees, where the delegation heard views on the issues of the east and proposals for solutions.
It is noteworthy that the UNITAMS’ delegation started its visit to the Red Sea State yesterday.
