WFP launches school feeding program 

The World Food Program (WFP) launched today in collaboration with the Ministry of Education the school feeding program at Al-Abrar Basic Stage School at Ombadda Locality in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Director of Basic Education in Khartoum State, WFP director and Director of Global Aid Hand organization, which implements the program.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Ms. Tamador Al-Teraifi affirmed her ministry’s concern with the school feeding program, which helps achieve stability of the education process at schools, commending efforts being exerted by all organizations in this field, especially the WFP.

She declared launching of the school grants program, which is sponsored by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) that covers all schools in the country.

Acting Country Director of WFP Marianne Ward, on her part, affirmed that School feeding is a game changer and an investment in future generations.

She declared that WFP increased food supply this year by 50%.

Director of Global Aid Hand organization Abozer Abdalla, on his part, indicated that the program comes as part of the International School Meals Day, noting that it gains its importance by linking education with health.

He said the program targets 187 schools at Ombada Locality and covers more than 100,000 students.
